- MM&A will hold a meeting open to the public to describe a recently approved authorization from the CNSC to neutralize an acidic solution containing very low concentration uranium at the 71 Middleton Street facility.
Relocation of nuclear substance handling operations:
- MM&A has transferred its contaminated metals processing equipment to the new facility operating in the USA and has moved the majority of the materials too. The remaining inventory is being moved and should be complete by October 2011.
- The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has issued MM&A a license to allow storage of the remaining materials in Brantford. The majority of the material will be transferred to the US location for processing. A small fraction will be consolidated and either shipped to facility for recovery or prepared for disposal at a licensed disposal facility. When the current inventory is removed the WNSL will be terminated.
- As part of the inventory reduction program the CNSC has authorized MM&A to neutralize and solidify an acid solution containing part per million quantities of uranium generated at the former location and currently stored on site. This step is necessary to meet the inventory reduction goals and will be performed according to CNSC approved programs and surveillance.
- The material poses no threat and this view is supported by the regulatory authorities. MM&A is willing to answer any questions or concerns that the community may have. Please feel free to contact us.
- The Brantford facility will not receive additional contaminated material.
